Steve has devoted his life to uncovering the mystery of this paradox and helping people and organizations find their service ethic. It began with a stint in the VISTA program, when he first pondered the dilemma of getting people and businesses involved in community initiatives. It was while helping the residents of Hannibal, Missouri during the devastating Mississippi floods of 1993 that he first witnessed the power of self-preservation to unleash the creative and material energy of individuals and organizations in support of the broader community good.
The experience propelled Steve, first as a top aid to the Lt. Governor of Missouri and later as a consultant to local and Fortune 500 companies, to discover that success is predicated as much on generosity as it is on greed. He has experienced firsthand that effective people and organizations are those that embrace what he calls the service path to success.
